The fifth generation Mustang GT began to see real boosts in performance features starting with the engine. The new models featured an all-aluminum 4.6 L 3-valve SOHC Modular V8 with variable camshaft timing and a more rugged Tremec TR-3650 transmission. The engine produced an impressive 300 horsepower that proved itself by running a quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds, with acceleration from zero to 60 MPH in 5.3 seconds.
But power doesnít mean much without handling. Thatís why this GT featured a stiffer, better handling version of the standard suspension, larger 12.4-inch front brakes, standard four-channel ABS with traction control, and a two-piece drive shaft. Add to that a stainless steel dual exhaust, standard grille-mounted fog lights, and 17-inch wheels (with optional 18-inch wheels) and youíve got a car that classifies as a classic.
You can bring back all the power and excitement of driving this car with aftermarket Roush, Steeda, Cervini, Flowmaster and Ford Racing 2005-2009 engine, exhaust, induction, suspension and dress up parts and kits.
