2005–2009 saw engine improvements for the entire Mustang line. For example, the base model went from a 3.8L Essex OHV V6 to a 4.0L Cologne SOHC V6. The new engine pumped out 210 horsepower, up from 190 horsepower in previous years.
Meantime, the fifth generation GT featured an all-aluminum 4.6 L 3-valve SOHC Modular V8 with variable camshaft timing and a more rugged Tremec TR-3650 transmission. Then there was the Carroll Shelby International modified Mustang Shelby. This car pumped out an impressive 319 horsepower.
But Ford didn’t stop with power, adding features such as stiffer handling, ABS traction control and appearance upgrades inside and out for all models.
